The MULTILIT Research Unit (MRU) was established within Macquarie University Special Education Centre in 2006 to co-ordinate continuing research into effective instruction for low-progress readers. MRU is directed by Professor Kevin Wheldall and Dr. Robyn Beaman is the Deputy Director.
Current research includes work on the development of MINILIT for young low-progress readers, the development of PRELIT (to teach pre-literacy skills to pre-school children), gender and reading disability, monitoring the reading progress of young struggling readers and the establishment of benchmarks in reading performance typically achieved by young readers in Years 1 and 2. Research also continues on the efficacy of MULTILIT with socially disadvantaged and aboriginal students.
